We are pleased that our vegetables and flowers are growing well. Flowers have bloomed on the Junior side and the vegetable plants are looking bigger each day.
SENIORS We have just planted vegetables in the Senior ESOL Garden. They are Curly Kale, Silverbeet, Spinach, Broccoli and Pak Choi. We enjoyed learning about planting and caring for vegetables and are looking forward to cooking and eating them when they have grown. JUNIORS On the Junior side the we planted Viola plants. We talked and wrote about what we did and we are looking forward to seeing the beautiful flowers when they grow.
In Term 1 we talked and wrote about ourselves, our families and our culture. We have students from all over the world at ESOL classes in Meadowbank School. In Term 2 we began by writing about our holidays and some of our beginning students learned a song.
The Year 4, 5 and 6 groups made Spinach or Silverbeet Pizzas. First we went to the garden and picked the vegetables. Then we washed and chopped the vegetables before putting them onto pizzas with tomato paste, salami, bacon and a mixture of cheeses. We baked them in the oven and then ate them. They were fantastic!!!
The other Year 3 group made Pak Choi Stir Fry with chicken and noodles. First we picked the Pak Choi from the garden. Next we washed and cut up the Pak Choi and then made a sauce to go in the stir fry. Then we cooked the chicken and added the Pak Choi, the sauce and the noodles. Finally we ate it. We all loved it so much we wanted to take some home.
Today was the day when we finally got to cook and eat the vegetables we have been growing for more than a term. One of the Year 3 groups made Curly Kale chips. First we collected the Curly Kale from the garden. Then we washed it and cut it into small pieces. After we dried it we put oil on it, then put the pieces on some baking paper, added salt and cooked them in the oven for 10 minutes. Finally we got to eat the chips. They were really yummy! The other Year 3 group made Pak Choi stir fry with chicken and noodles. First we picked the Pak Choi from the garden.
