At Meadowbank School we are lucky to have children from many different countries. Often students come speaking a language other than English so we provide classes for them to learn to speak, read and write English.
Today was the day when we finally got to cook and eat the vegetables we have been growing for more than a term. One of the Year 3 groups made Curly Kale chips. First we collected the Curly Kale from the garden. Then we washed it and cut it into small pieces. After we dried it we put oil on it, then put the pieces on some baking paper, added salt and cooked them in the oven for 10 minutes. Finally we got to eat the chips. They were really yummy! The other Year 3 group made Pak Choi stir fry with chicken and noodles. First we picked the Pak Choi from the garden.
Today the Junior ESOL students made pizzas using the herbs we grew. We had Basil, Parsley, Pizza Thyme and Chives. First we picked some of each herb and then we made pizzas with pizza bases, tomato paste, pineapple, bacon, salami, cheese and herbs. We cooked them and ate them. They were delicious!
We are pleased that our vegetables and flowers are growing well. Flowers have bloomed on the Junior side and the vegetable plants are looking bigger each day.
